Every gift you make to the campaign will help Sedberghians today and tomorrow.

If all 6,000 OS and Sedberghian families gave £2,025 to our campaign, we could raise an astonishing £12m – enough to fund the Technology Centre and kickstart the Green Investment Fund.

A fully funded Scholar would cost approximately £188,000 for the 5 years of education at Sedbergh.  Just 25 donors giving £1,525 a year for 5 years would transform the life of a disadvantaged child by offering them a place at the School.

£25,000 will enable us to build a Music Practice Room in the new Casterton Sedbergh Prep School Music Centre.

You are investing in a shared ambition which has its foundation in those who have helped us before. You are investing in your heritage and our future.

Tax Efficient Giving

Sedbergh School Foundation is a registered charity and benefits from Gift Aid on donations made by UK taxpayers. Gift Aid enables charities to receive additional funds on your donation, directly from HMRC.

For example, on a donation of £10,000, we claim £2,500 in Gift Aid, meaning your total gift will be £12,500 to the School.

If you pay tax at the higher rate, you can claim back the difference between the higher rates of tax (40% or 45%) and the basic rate (20%) on the total value of the donation.

For example, if you pay 40%, a donation of £10,000 allows you to claim £2,500 back, so the donation costs you only £7,500 net, but the School will receive £12,500.

If you pay 45%, a donation of £10,000 allows you to claim £3,125 back, so the donation costs you only £6,875 net, but we still receive £12,500.

Donors can get tax relief on gifts to charity of certain listed shares, securities and other investments. You can get income tax relief, in addition to the capital gains tax relief on gifts of assets to charity. The tax relief applies if you give, or sell at less than market value, any qualifying investments to a UK charity.

An unlimited amount can be given to charity via payroll giving. It costs you less to give because your donation is given to charity from your gross salary before any tax is taken off – so you don’t pay tax on it.

Our Funding

Philanthropy is at the core of our School and many transformational projects have been possible only because of the deep commitment of our supporters across the globe.

As an ambitious school serving over 770 pupils across our sites, there are many calls on the revenue generated through fee income and by our commercial undertakings.

Our strategic plan for the next five years includes a significant capital programme, as well as ongoing expenditure on major repairs and renewals. The most urgent projects and those which will have the greatest impact are costed and prioritised. We cannot fund all we would like to do just from the School’s fee income, reserves and investments. Only with your help can Sedbergh deliver a forward-thinking education for pupils today and in the future.

Through the extraordinary generosity of members of our OS community, £4.5m has been donated and a further £800,000 has been pledged towards our campaign. This is your opportunity to leave a mark for the next generation of young people by making the gift of a lifetime, joining your peers who have donated to date.

The projects we are funding through this campaign total £25m.  A mixture of prudent resourcing from the School, its subsidiaries and the support of our donors will enable us to transform the educational landscape in the North of England.
